4307 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/KW.6.8.35. SpectreCodename for Phantom III Camshaft. The camshaft which we have decided gives the best compromise on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III is EX.18044. Particulars of this camshaft are given in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.9/KW.5.8.35. The compromise effected was between - (1) Slow running (2) Silencing of valve gear (3) Top power. We are proposing to instruct this camshaft for the first 3 experimental cars which will be demonstrated at Olympia. We have proved that the camshaft has a very definite bearing on the intake silencer and to a smaller extent on the exhaust system, so that if we decide to alter the camshaft at any future date, we shall be faced with alterations to these other parts. Therefore we should like to know whether you agree with the modifications to the camshaft.
