INTERVIEW WITH MR. MURRAY - PRESIDENT OF THE
AMERICAN BOSCH CORPORATION.

I saw Mr. Murray at 12.15 p.m. at Conduit Street on Monday as the result of a request from Sales Dept. It transpires that Mr. Murray's firm have an idea which they are experimenting upon, and which he was desirous of conveying to us in case we should like to make experiments in the same direction. He stated that their work on the idea was still only in the experimental stage, but it seemed evident that they expected it to have some practical value. He stated that he was offering us the idea on an entirely gratuitous basis.

The principle involved is the completely automatic control of the ignition advance and retard by means of instantaneous pressures in one of the main cylinders. The ignition advance and retard mechanism is operated by the movement of a double acting piston in a small cylinder, the two working volumes of which are connected respectively via small valves giving suitably timed 'flick' openings to a tube in connection with one of the main working cylinders. The 'flick' openings of the valves are effected by half time cams which may actually be mounted on the spindle driving the battery ignition contact breaker and distributor.
