Contd. -2- EH4/LG13.6.19. either loose or cracked whitemetal. The American rods have all had to be re-whitemetalled and a large percentage of those made in Switzerland had to be re-whitemetalled. On the "Eagle" and "Falcon" engines however, although there were any number of cases of cracked or loose whitemetal, we never had the metal come right out like it has done on the "Condor" bearings. X.1832. The pistons which are instructed for the "Condor" X.1831. and which are being made are the lowest compression. In our recent conversations with Capt. Briggs, we have made it clear to him that most probably the "Condor" engines will develop 600 HP. under peace-time conditions. The conditions we agreed to as regards the type test were that no horse-power should be specified but that we should run the engine at the agreed revolutions and that whatever horse-power came out, that was what the engines would be rated.
