X4681 H12/EA6.7.28. Laboratory. c to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c to NRC. {N. R. Chandler} Re "Kleenwell" and H1/NRC {N. R. Chandler} 25/KW6.7.28. In January last we were given to understand by Mr.Robotham that the use of "Kleenwell" salts for radiator cleansing was being considered. We were requested to investigate the action of this solution to see if any deleterious effect was produced upon radiator tubes and rubber jointing hose. The strength of solution mentioned was 2 lbs "Kleenwell" per gallon of water and the period of circulation, 48 hours. The result of our investigation, which showed that no serious action took place, was communicated to Mr.Robotham, and we have since informed him that on no account should this solution be used when an aluminium surface is exposed in the water system. In passing, it may be noted that we have analysed "Kleenwell" salts, in order that no difficulty might be experienced in making up the necessary solution. The composition was found to be 98% Caustic Soda, 2% Potassium Cyanide approximately. Hl. HE | ||
