I do not think that the combination suggested viz. stainless steel, which must be soft, working with phosphor bronze which is also soft enough to spin over the end of the bush, is good. I have found that generally speaking where moisture is prevalent that we cannot work phosphor bronze in contact with steel, but by changing the bronze bush to the brass bush containing zinc I have always hitherto been able to eliminate the corrosion which seems in this instance to be the vital factor. I am instructing the Works to change the phosphor bronze to hard drawn brass, annealed sufficiently to enable the end of the bush to be spun over. We propose to retain the case hardened pin, as this seems to be an essential factor in order to reduce the wear. Ry. | ||
