To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. BJ20/H23.3.22. V4299 Re 14-tooth Axle. --- Mr. Royce passed a standardisation sheet with regard to the 14-tooth axle which says, "to improve the performance of cars with heavy bodies". The point now arises that P.N. is of opinion that the 14-tooth axle gives very excellent results on cars with touring bodies. You will be making tests of the 14-tooth axle at Brooklands, etc. soon, and we shall be glad if you will ascertain from R.{Sir Henry Royce} whether he sees any technical reason why we should not supply 14-tooth axles on touring cars where they are likely to prove specially suited; for instance, for hilly countries and for people who particularly prefer rapid hill-climbing and pick-up rather than very high speeds on the level.
