1110 C. Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}2/MH.{M. Huckerby} 8th. September 1938. Messrs. Paul Quinn, Ltd., 490, Ipswich Road, Slough Trading Estate, Slough, BUCKS. For the attention of Mr. Tresilian. Dear Sirs, Mr. Grylls has handed to the writer your letter of 6th. inst. We are interested in the possibility of mounting a flywheel on rubber, especially if some damped flexibility is provided in the "wobble" sense, in addition to the torsional sense. Rather naturally, the first question which occurs to us, concerns the ability of the material to retain its characteristics when subjected to temperatures up to say, 120°C, continual kneading and fatigue, and oil, also the means of insuring that the wheel would at all times remain absolutely concentric with the shaft. We would be interested to have particulars of any developments to date, especially the application to an engine with a torque of about 200 lbs/ft. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
