-2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}7/JH.31.12.37. When you find it is necessary to fit new bearings including the whitemetal rear bearing; the attached memo. giving details of clearance etc. and to which production are now working should be adhered to, subject to slight alterations demanded in a service engine as follows. Production conditions calls for a bearing whose outside diameter size and size or .001 larger than its housing and on top of this the bearing halves to stand proud of the joint face by .001 on each half. It is likely that the bearing housings of the crankcases of engines in service will be slightly oversize and that new bearings supplied to you will not give the .001 interference fit in which case this can be compensated for by allowing more nip in regard to the bearings standing proud of the joint face. We consider that this figure should not exceed .002 on each bearing half on each side of the bearing. It is hoped that this memo. will convey some useful information to you until such time that Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} visits you and gives you full details of the job. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} Attached memo. | ||
