1378 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/SW. 14th February, 1941. W.Boddy, Esq., Acting Editor, Motor Sport, 129, Fleet Road, South Farnborough, HANTS. Dear Mr. Boddy, Thank you for your letter of February 3rd. On checking up, I find that the correct axle ratios were; overdrive 4.3, pre-overdrive 4.1. I have arranged with Mr.Gowen that you shall try a Bentley V.{VIENNA} on February 23rd. We found that the maximum speed was down on the previous car that you tried, owing to incorrect carburetter setting. We have to thank Hitler for this, since the car left the factory when War was declared and never got back again for a final check over. To save you the trouble of taking fuel consumption curves, I can give you one taken on a 4 1/4 litre overdrive at various speeds in pre-war days. The weight of the car, the axle ratio and the engine, are almost identical. Yours sincerely, | ||
