25-EX - L.H. STEERING CHASSIS

In a run of about 250 miles this weekend, the following are a few of the features I noted.

The car does not give one a very good impression at first, it seemed to me rough and noisy. As time went on however I modified this opinion, and felt that the only outstanding feature was the exhaust boom in the neighbourhood of 60 m.p.h. This is objectionable, and is bound to be unfavourably commented upon. Although this is a feature which we are aware exists on Phantom II, I have not tried a complete car on which it is so noticeable as on this one.

Steering at 60 m.p.h. "joggles".

Pivot lean feels more than 2°.

Brakes squeak.

Engine gears are not quiet at slow speeds.

Starting up from cold is rather difficult, starter carburetter jet seems weak.

The speedometer drive is noisy, this can be cured temporarily by setting it over, but it invariably returns to the noisy position.

The water temperature is low, it never exceeds 70° - the average temperature was about 65°.

The headlights are not satisfactory for this country, although they may comply with U.S.A. regulations.

The "bright" position has insufficient range, and there is very little contrast between it and the "dim" position.

One of the bulbs in the patch lighting scheme is making bad contact and only lights occasionally.

There is a heavy rattle, probably from the coachwork or wings when going slowly over rough roads.

The right hand side interior lamp glass rattles.

Rain has penetrated on to the upholstery through the left hand rear window, although this was kept in the closed position. I find the fastener does not secure it properly.

contd.
