Locking of Flywheel Nuts. ----------------------- With regard to the method of locking the flywheel nuts submitted to us, we do not think we shall achieve anything by testing the fixing to destruction in an engine. We are however of the opinion that provided the locking in every case is up to the standard of the two samples submitted, namely, requiring about 20 lbs. ft. torque to slack the nut, it will be entirely satisfactory for production. We suggest that the tightness of nuts on crankshafts is occasionally tested to make sure that the locking is correct. We believe also that initial tightness of the nuts is more important than the actual locking. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/H.Grylls. | ||
