Phantom III Steering Column Top Nut.

It has been pointed out that the top of the steering column with needle roller bearings, as standardised for the first 50 chassis, is not identical with that for the 25/30 H.P., and for which we have already provided you with a locking device.

On N.Sch.4804 herewith we show a means of locking the nut on the Phantom III by means of a small stainless steel counter-sunk headed screw. The hole for this screw is drilled and tapped after the steering column has been erected and passed as satisfactory.

We appreciate that the design is not altogether an ideal production job, but it is the best that can be done in view of the limitations of the circumstances, and we feel that it can be tolerated in as much as only 50 chassis in 'A' series are affected prior to the introduction of the new top bearing with the Oilite bush.
