W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Mr Robotham, Enclosed please find prints T. 4765/6 and C.L. 4108/9/10/11 showing timing diagrams and cam contours for your side valve and overhead valve engines. You will note that this cam does not exactly comply with your specification, as our Engineering Department was not quite sure whether the timing diagram which you gave us included the ramps. However, we believe that these cams will give good performance. You will note, also, that the accelerations are higher on the opening side than on the closing side. We have found that this permits the use of much higher accelerations on the opening side without the false motion becoming excessive. With the use of hydraulic lifters it is important in most cases to reduce false motion to the minimum, especially on the closing side. I should appreciate receiving your comments on this design. By this time you have no doubt received the sample units, and we should like very much to have the results of your tests. Meanwhile, if I can be of any assistance please let me know. Sincerely yours, J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} O.{Mr Oldham} Eaton, Jr.{Mr James Royce} | ||
