X634 ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. RECEIVED STAMP: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DEC 29 1927 HY{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} W OY9.R.12.15.27 December 15th, 1927. Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby, England. (Copy for attention Mr. R.W.H. Bailey) ( " " " Mr. Nadin) Dear Mr. Hives: RE SLIPPER FLYWHEEL - SECTION 5020 I have just run across the attached illustration of the new Chrysler Vibration Damper, which is provided with a centrifugal mass so mounted as to increase the pressure on the friction surfaces in proportion to the square of the speed. This damper is mounted outside the crankcase and depends on dry friction without any form of lubrication. This is the common form of damper, as it is being adopted on most American cars. In view of your intense interest in this matter at the present time, I am sending this to you at once without attempting to learn whether it is actually a success on the Chrysler, as I think that the scheme has possibilities which you will want to try out. Yours very truly, Maurice Olley MO:R Encl. | ||
