Minute No. -2- Hyl/R.23.1

4. Petrol Pumps.
E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} enquired whether R.R. agree to make the moulds and supply bakelite mouldings to the S.U. Company for the new design of pump cover incorporating various improvements including the provision of a fuse in the electrical circuit.
Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} agreed that we do this and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will take the necessary steps with the S.U. people.

5. Revolution Indicator.
Red Line.
Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} stated that he had gathered the impression that some of the Sales staff do not seem to think that the red danger mark on the engine revolution indicator is meant to be taken as a really serious warning and that a little over-stepping of the mark can be indulged in without much risk.

Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that in view of the very real danger that exists if the red line is crossed C. should be requested to inform all concerned at Sales Dept. that the warning is intended to be taken seriously and grave risk is incurred if over-speeding of the engine is practised.

6. Aluminium Con Rods.
Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} enquired what plans were being considered to eliminate the need for the red line limiting the revs. to a maximum of 4,500.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said that a four bearing crankshaft would raise the period about 1,000 revs. but a completely new design of engine is necessary to accomplish this. He said that a quick improvement can be obtained if aluminium alloy Con Rods are used (RR.56 alloy).

The period speed can be raised about 250 revs. by this means.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said rods of this type are already in hand experimentally.

It was decided that these rods be pushed ahead with all speed.

7. 20/25 H.P. Requirements.
Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} raised the question of urgently required 20/25 H.P. improvements and requested that E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} give this matter their immediate attention. The following are the most urgently required improvements on the 20/25:-
(1) New Carburetter giving improved power and speed.
(2) Shock Damper Control.
