To G.W. Hancock Esq.,
Hotel de France,
Chateauroux,
Indre, France.

We hope that the Cadillac is now running again.

The Test Dept. are telling us that on the new 20/25 carburetter when they get oil on the air valve the performance is materially affected. This interests us because it may have some bearing on the performance of the cars in Paris, though we expect you removed the air valves and cleaned them etc. while the test was on. However, we should like your opinion on this, as you can easily smother the air valve in oil and see what effect it has on the performance of the car and also see whether under running conditions you get the same trouble. It is very difficult to keep the oil off the air valve and we are therefore somewhat concerned in case their fears are substantiated.

Another trouble the Test have had is crackling in the silencer. If they do not get crackling in the silencer they get loose baffles which rattle. We say that the trouble is due to poor manufacture. They do not make the last baffle in the silencer, which acts as a sliding support for the central tube, a good enough fit, hence their trouble. We should be glad to know whether you have had any trouble with your silencer in this respect. This one was of course made in the Experimental Dept.

The Test have also had a case of a silencer support falling off due to the nut retaining same coming unscrewed. We should like to know whether you have had any trouble in this direction. Actually we are overcoming it by fitting a castellated nut at this point.

When you plug off the oil from the connecting rods we shall be interested to know how the lead bronze bearings are going.

We note your repeated reference to front brake thumps; can you do nothing to eliminate these ?

We observe your tests with rubber on the dashboard to resist the engine torque, but would rather you used torque reaction dampers as we can get these on the car without much difficulty.
