LUXURY TAX.
If a car is purchased in France for exportation the 10% tax need not be paid: that is, it will not be collected by the vendor. He will, however, give a declaration that the car is for exportation on condition that the car is exported within four or five days, or the time necessary for the car to leave by road or rail. It is not necessary to pay the Inland Revenue Tax for a quarter, as a free 'permis de circulation' can be obtained from the nearest Bureau des Contributions Indirectes, but it is very important to make it clear to the latter that the car is for exportation.

INSTRUCTIONS
FOR USING THE
FRENCH CUSTOMS FORMS.

Each Form must be signed by the member to whom it is issued, in the spaces indicated by a cross.
Form I. must be detached and retained by the French Customs Officials when the car enters the country.
Form II. must be detached and retained by the French Customs Officials when the car leaves the country (see over for Special Instructions for Temporary Export).
Form III. must be carefully retained by the holder, and must be stamped and signed at the foot in the spaces provided for the purpose, on both entering and leaving France.
Provided this form, duly stamped and signed as stated, is returned to the Club, the amount deposited will be refunded by the Club.
The forms are available for twelve months from the date of issue.

IMPORTANT.
It must be remembered that it is not the duty of Customs Officials to stop motorists when leaving the country, or to ask for Customs Papers. The owner must apply to them to get the forms stamped. The Official's duty is merely to prevent articles being introduced into the country without payment of Customs.
Members are, therefore, warned that unless the regulations are duly carried out, it is impossible under any circumstances to recover the amount deposited.
If the holder of the Customs Forms wishes to leave France temporarily the Customs Officials must stamp and sign in the spaces provided for the purpose on the back of Form II., and not at foot of Form III., and the car can then be re-introduced into France on the same set of forms, the officials stamping and signing on the back of the form at each exit and entry.
When finally leaving, Form II. must be detached by the Customs, and the officials must stamp and sign at the foot of Form III.
