GOSHAWK DYNAMO BRUSH TESTS.

Further to

(1) Our EFC6/T22.10.23, reporting comparative tests of Goshawk dynamo brushes of various materials with the commutator and brush gear in the original condition, viz. commutator not specially undercut and brushes not bevelled.

(2) Our EFC2/T13.11.23, reporting comparative tests of the running of the Goshawk brush gear in the original condition with standard brushes not bevelled and commutator not specially undercut, and in the present standard condition with Z brushes bevelled and commutator specially undercut.

and(3) Our EFC1/T21.11.23, reporting comparative tests of brush gear with standard brushes in the new condition with brush springs of normal and of increased pressure.

we have now made tests of Morganite brush materials EGO and EG2 (the two which did the best on previous tests), with the brushes and commutator in the new standard condition, and a copy of my assistant's report on the results of these tests is attached.

The programme of running for each brush material is precisely as previously described in our EFC6/T22.10.23.

For comparative purposes we here give the wear of the EGO and EG2 brushes, together with that of the Z brushes, run under the same condition:-

EGO. EG2. Z.
Positive. .023" .018" .0075"
Negative. .017" .016" .0215"
Control. .021" .0135" .0235"
