We consider Ricardo's remarks on high compression causing roughness are perfectly logical. One would imagine that the rate of rise in pressure would effect roughness more than the peak pressure. Unfortunately the only means we have of altering the compression ratio is by raising the piston which, if anything, makes our combustion chamber a worse shape for detonation. We have not gone far enough with the alum. engine to make any definite statement as regards the altered combustion chamber on that engine. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
