skin is so thin, it is not possible to test the hardness by the usual methods, such as Brinell, Vickers, Scleroscope, etc., but the actual surface hardness of a treated Piston, may be demonstrated by a special rubbing test.

It is stated by the Patentees of the process, that risk of chipping or pealing is eliminated because the oxide is integral with the base metal, therefore, there should be no fear of damage of this nature to the Piston under actual running conditions.

We trust that the foregoing details have been of interest to you, and if you are at all interested in carrying out special tests under your supervision, we shall be pleased to supply the necessary Pistons, and would arrange for half the set to be treated, and the remainder of the set to be un-treated, so that a comparative test could be taken under equal working conditions.

Yours faithfully,

FOR AND ON BEHALF OF
SPECIALLOID LIMITED.
