THERMOSTAT SPRINGS.

Complaints are being received of water temperatures being too low since the standardisation of thermostatically operated shutters. We have carried out tests to produce a spring, to be used inside the thermostat, which will have the effect of making the shutters open later and so raise the average running water temperature.

We agree that these springs should be fitted where complaints arise and that the various depots should carry a stock of springs.

We do not wish to raise the temperature any more than is necessary to satisfy the customer, in order that boiling troubles should not be encountered, and we recommend that the weaker of the two following springs should be used; they will give an average running temperature of 75oC. If this is not sufficiently high to satisfy the complaint, then the stronger spring should be used, this will give an average running temperature of 77oC.
