Oy1-E-5627 May 6th, 1927 To: Mr. Nadin cc Mr. Hulley Mr. Caswell Mr. Burton From: Mr. Olley Re High Speed Wobble In connection with a note to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} of February 23rd, 1926, I sent the attached print in which I worked out a figure for the criss-cross moment due to gyroscopic action based on the figures they found at Derby on smooth drums. From our experience which Vick had with a chassis the other day we can now supplement these figures with some of our own, (sketch II). We found the M.I. of our wheels (December 2nd, 1926) to be rather larger than Derby's figure, namely 2.79 units as against 2.73. The corresponding figures are alarming and show the necessity for hydraulic shock absorbers etc., to keep the wobble from starting, as there is no chance of stopping it afterwards. Oy- MO/E | ||
