To-Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} PN.{Mr Northey} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} OWB. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X 8989 BJ3/H30.10.25. OVER-OILING ON "NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM IS". With reference to the attached, we shall be obliged if you will give us your opinion, together with that of Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} as to whether it is considered desirable to leave in abeyance until after the 10,000 miles test which is now starting, any question of dealing with Phantoms unless there is a definite complaint of over-oiling. If the 10,000 miles test shows that the new piston rings etc. prove satisfactory, we can then decide to deal either with all cars when they come in for any repair, or with all cars whether they come in for repair or not, in order to prevent over-oiling in future. Will you also please give us your opinion in regard to the oil gauge and over-flow cock mentioned in the last paragraph, and whether you consider this should be placed before R.{Sir Henry Royce} B.J.
