Re. HARTFORD SHOCK ABSORBERS.

We have read with interest your memo Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 2/LG22.6.22, which we take it has been issued as a result of our conversation with you on this matter after [strikethrough]our investigations[/strikethrough] on the faulty shock absorbers on 16-EE, which was specially made in view of the complaints that have been received regarding these shock absorbers.

We should like to make it clear that in all cases where we have fitted up shock absorbers in this department, spring washers have been fitted to control the endways movement on the universal joint.

We would like to add, to avoid any misunderstanding, that the shock absorbers on 81-TW and 16-EE were not fitted by this department.

As a matter of fact, having made this investigation, we had arranged to circulate to our Depots this information, pointing out the importance of spring washers being fitted, also pointing out that such cars which come to their notice on which Hartford Shock Absorbers are fitted should be inspected and the correct spring washers fixed, instructions being given as to how they should be fixed, as conveyed to us yesterday by the representative of the Agents of the Hartford Shock Absorbers.

We take it that whoever fitted the shock absorbers on 16-EE will specially note Mr. Hives remarks re greasing the friction surfaces, as of course this is quite wrong.
