B.80 Throttle Opening.

For the last 20 years the foot accelerator and hand control has always been made so that the amount of throttle opening is small at the first part of the stroke.

I could not understand why the B.80 controls have not been satisfactory until last week when I went into the matter thoroughly.

It has all come about through a new draughtsman theorising that the area of throttle opening should be plotted against the pedal movement, whereas our practice has been to plot throttle opening in degrees against pedal angle.

The people responsible realised the mistake and corrected the design and issued the drawings 5 days before War broke out so there is not much doubt the job never got to you.

I can see no object in mentioning the names of the individuals as the intention was good but the method wrong.
