ORIGINAL HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} BY ) (At Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence.) to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} R4/M23.12.30. X5250 25HP. RADIATOR FOR DEEPER APPEARANCE. Mr. Sidgreaves is pressing that this shall be still deeper than the one running in France on 18-G-4. I agree to this but it must not be a sham (our reputation will not allow us) so I telegraphed as follows:- "CHINA - DEEPER RADIATOR CANNOT AGREE TO" "SCHEME BECAUSE IT IS FALSE. EITHER MAKE" "THOROUGH CHANGE SUITABLE FOR JAPAN OR BE" "CONTENT WITH ONE INCH WHICH WE CAN DO HONESTLY. "LETTER POSTED." In making such changes there are manythings to think about. Do we want central support of radiator, or if not why has something changed to alter the requirements, or do we prefer the present rigid support. Assuming the present support, and not passing the starting handle through the matrix my drawing shews that keeping the present construction, but with special bottom tank and somewhat lighter parts and finer clearances, we can add 1" of tubes, and to the depth which brings our shutters to within 1" of the transmission line. This I think we ought to do, and be content. Then with 'Japan' we might make the radiator narrower or thinner and again increase the depth and nearness of the bottom of the radiator to the ground by bringing it in line with P. 2. My scale drawing (full size) enclosed. RECEIVED 31 DEC 1930 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
