PETO & RADFORD. CONTINUATION 2. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Fowler Clark Esq., 8th December 1925. as it is left alone it may go a very long time. With regard to the output curve, 13.6 amperes peak is a good deal more than 11 amperes and if you could really keep the maximum down to 11 it would be a great advantage. From Mr. Chandler's notes, it would seem that when the cars are used chiefly in towns, the batteries run a risk of being undercharged and possibly over discharged, but when they are used on more normal work with ordinary runs the batteries are very much overcharged and (all makes) ultimately fail owing to shedding of positive active material. I do not think you are likely to get any battery complaint on new PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I cars for at least a year from now because they have only been on the road barely six months. We are hoping to be able to modify some internal dimensions of our batteries to enable us to give an extra ¼" sludge space, which would be an advantage in that it will postpone the failure of a battery owing to the space filling up and shorting the plates. We will let you know definitely about this in a few days. Mr. Preston is getting some information together and we think we should like to come and see you before I go away to try and get to the bottom of this and see your results. A suggestion has been made that Mr. Peto (possibly), Mr. Preston and I should come up and see you on Monday the 14th inst. That is about the only day I could come before I go, and if we could arrange it, would it be all right for you? Yours sincerely, G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} R.{Sir Henry Royce} N.
