CAR WORK.

We have a Phantom ll car running with the new crankshaft and connecting rods. The high speed smoothness is very encouraging. We are using the low inertia crankshaft damper. We shall have a second car running with a stiffer crank and the standard slipper wheels next week.

We have the latest sheet metal and cast exhaust systems fitted to cars. We are surprised how good the standard system appears to be if we reduce the engine vibration.

We have tried fabric on the clutch disc and so far it appears to be an im-provement.

The longer skirt pistons we have been running have behaved excellently.

We have carried out a lot of experiments turning the engine over by driving the car rear wheels. We find that under these conditions the Chrysler does not show up well for smooth-ness. We have obtained a lot of interesting data.

The expanding choke carburetter has been continuously on test.

We have a large bore 20 HP. running with a 12/50 axle ratio, we think this will be excellent for light bodies.

Most of the parts for the new type gear-boxes will be available for the next visit to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town.
