ENGINE.

Since beginning this report, the engine had to be dismantled, owing to knocks developing from the gudgeon pins. It was found that they had partially seized and worn the bushes in the pistons considerably. We have had difficulty in obtaining new bushes, as the General motors in three countries did not keep a sufficient supply. The cause would appear to be due to lack of oil and we presume the lack of oil is when starting up in the morning and running the engine too slow. The oil pressure not being sufficient to reach the gudgeon pins. There is no reference to running the engine when cold in the Cadillac construction book, but evidently the oil pump does not give sufficient pressure at low speeds. There is an escape of oil from the connecting rods to feed the cylinder walls.
