E.A.C.II. WATER TUBES AT PRESENT MADE IN MONEL METAL.

Experimental Dept. should note that forty feet of 3/4" diameter produced from a new material named "Corronil" has been received in the Stores.

The material in question has been obtained to enable the Experimental Dept. to produce two sets of tubes and fit same to two of the EAC.II. engines. The engines should then be put on test in the ordinary way and carefully watched to see whether the material will develop leakages the same as the mild steel tubes did.

We do not expect an early report on this matter but it is most important that two engines should be fitted up as quickly as possible but these should be kept under regular observation.

The whole point at issue in this connection is that "Corronil" is somewhat cheaper than Monel Metal and if the former material is satisfactory as the latter, we should, after an extended test, be enabled to adopt same on production engines, but in the meantime, all production engines will be fitted with Monel Metal pending the results of the experiments with "Corronil".
