Experimental routine test results comparing Scintilla AM-6-A and Watford E.O.6 magnetos.

| Contd. This magneto was also put through our experimental routine tests, with results recorded below, after which it has been fitted to EAC.III, chassis 93-NK and has done 453 miles to date. It will be seen from the results recorded below that the performance characteristics of this machine are rather better than those of the previous similar machine but of opposite rotation. The experimental routine bench test results for the two machines, each of type AM-6-A (No.26485 + rotation and No.34937 - rotation), in comparison with similar results for a present standard Watford E.O.6, are as follows :- (1) Weight of each Scintilla magneto, slightly over 12.5 lbs. " " Watford EO6 - 12.8 lbs. the weights, therefore, being practically identical. (2) The observed hand, automatic, and total advances of the three machines, are as follows :- Hand. Automatic. Total. Scintilla AG-6-A.{Mr Adams} 17.5° 32.5° 50° " AM-6-A.{Mr Adams} No.26485. 20° 33° 53° " AM-6-A No.34937. 20.5° 32.5° 53° (The total advance (hand only) of the EO6 Watford machine is 33° (here, up to 60° can be made available, but actually only 25° is required on the present standard 40/50.) The quietness of the Scintilla magneto is quite reasonable, and probably somewhat better than the standard EO6, but for analysis of existing noises, see report WA.{Mr Wallis}11 attached. Contd. | ||
