INDIA CUTOUT SPRING. X54490

Replying to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M29.6.26.

The cutout return spring as at present fitted to 9-G-111 at WW. conforms to the conditions called for on N.sch. 2032, the detailed spring number being E.53712.

When changing cutout valves in Derby on this silencer it was noticed that the spring being too strong had bent the valve operating lever to which it is attached. This was the last item attended to on the car before it left for WW. consequently there was no time to go further into the matter.

We have rigged up a second silencer with the same spring and fittings and find that the spring is obviously too strong. From this it is fairly safe to surmise that the spring on 9-G-111 is correct to WW. drawings. We believe RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} is going further into the matter.
