TO EH. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to Cd. " " BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} " " EPC. ORIGINAL D RE PISTONS. RECEIVED 1 SEP 1919 X.2148 R7/G27/8/19. 2 With reference to the pistons with rings low down, it was intended that the piston above the ring should fit the cylinder as closely as possible. The object of the low pos-ition of the ring was that they were protected from the heat, and not so liable to get gummed in the grooves, would better keep the oil from working into the combustion chamber, would hold the gas better, and would wear in their grooves less. In fact, there will be many advantages, providing that they are found to have no serious disadvantage. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
