HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Copy to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ORIGINAL 18-EX. R3/M28.11.30. x8992 This is my old car which is to be modified for the South of France. (1) Some useful testing might be done if we could have the road springs of this car made to the proposed new standard of 10" and 4.5" initial deflection. I do not think they will be found to be far away from these amounts. (2) In conjunction with this we think temporary slings should be put under the back axle and the shock/dampers modified to the 10" levers. This would be extremely valuable. (3) Should time permit the engine mounting, if not already in line with the proposed new scheme, might be modified. (4) The clutch might be fitted with a new fabric. (5) Another useful point would be thermostatic radiator shutter control adapted for the standard decided upon. Perhaps it would be as well to send an alternative thermo: unit so that we can have 60º and 70º respectively, or the highest and lowest limits likely to give satisfaction. (6) Also in conjunction with the radiator we might have the valve scheme to prevent loss of water. Regarding the new car that you are preparing for me, I hope it will be kept at Derby until the first of the improved shock dampers are available. RECEIVED R.{Sir Henry Royce} 1 DEC 1930 | ||
