Mr Royce Re Taper Valve Springs. Two more taper valve springs - one inlet and one exhaust - broke on the test engine after 9000 miles. In several broken valve springs which I have inspected I have noticed that the fracture has occured either at a flaw or at what is apparently a crease in the metal, formed during the drawing process. In consequence of this I am having one dozen springs polished with a very high surface, which I propose to inspect very carefully with the glass to see if these flaws can be detected when the springs are in this condition. | ||
