M.40 Engine.

We send herewith the following designs :-

PL.339 which shows the induction pipe, horizontal S.U. carburetter, air silencer and sheet metal air intake. At the aft end of the induction pipe there is an integral General Oil Filter, the size of the cartridge is a new creation which will be supplied from outside along with the cover and the gasket joint. We shall make the stirrup and holding down screw.

PL.346 Oil Pipes and Fittings. In order to clean up the engine and to make the minimum amount of oil piping, oil is lead from the gallery to the filter and the clean oil feeds the rocker mechanism. Olive joints are used instead of the usual unions and to avoid the use of banjos we call for Enots elbow connections. In the event of the filter becoming silted up, the cartridge will lift off its seat at about 7 lbs. pressure. We call for a warning light switch to be fitted to the oil pressure gallery in place of the usual oil pressure gauge. This switch will illuminate the warning light on the dashboard when the pressure fails. Particulars of this switch can be obtained from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs} It only requires a tapped hole in the gallery.

PL.340 Thermostat. The thermostat bellows and valve is exactly as B.V. but the casing shown is smaller in bulk generally.
