COMPLAINT RE OVERHEATING ON 3-AZ-47.
VICEROY OF INDIA.

This car is fitted with the latest Mk.Vl.{V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} type of matrix and we do not therefore anticipate that any silting up of the matrix has taken place. We note that you have issued instructions re the correct setting of the radiator steam valve on this car.

Our recommendations are as follows -

(1) That a five bladed fan of the new type (together with the higher speed drive) should be supplied and fitted to the car.

We have instructed a dozen such fans and will let you know as soon as they are available.

(2) We are submitting a thermometer for Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s inspection with a scale reading up to 90°C and a red line corresponding to 106°C., the temperature at which water loss occurs. If this is considered satisfactory, we shall obtain thermometers of this type with longer capillaries and will recommend that one of these thermometers should be fitted with the bulb union at the front of B. side head instead of the rear of A.side head.

With these modifications we do not think it likely that further complaints will be experienced.

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.
