Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}17/E.7.10.35. We are carrying out intensive work in conjunction with the Dunlop Rubber Co. on this question of tyre noise. They are making all sorts of treads for us to try. The difficulty as we see it is that the existing type of tread is a very good compromise and has been arrived at after a good deal of development. If we finally have to make a major alteration to keep it quiet, it will probably spoil its other features. For this reason attacking the wheel seems to be a more promising line of development, and this is also being followed up. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
