X235 To BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to CJ. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DA {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 2/M20.3.26. RR. HYDRAULIC SHOCK DAMPERS. X.235 X.8520 We send herewith N.sch.2162 shewing R's suggested modification incorporating both high and low pressure valves in the piston, larger inlet valves, a cylindrical filter under the standpipe instead of a flat one, and a screwed gland. R. {Sir Henry Royce} has instructed us that the double valve scheme is to be regarded as a future modification, consequently is not part of the present urgent experiments. We suggest that you should wait for this until we get some comments from R. {Sir Henry Royce} We expect however that the screwed gland will most certainly be required on the first shock dampers, and we suggest you should incorporate this in your present exepriments.
