16 1920 To R from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to BH. Copy to EFC. RECEIVED X.3581 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/UB16-9-20. "Goshawk" Induction Pipes. X.3581 We have got the "Goshawk" engine running with some temporary copper pipes and an R.R. carburetter with reduced throat, but as it is now arranged it will not go into the car. We have accordingly prepared some schemes for fitting the carburetter and induction pipes when the engine is put into the car and send you prints herewith of "N" Scheme 550 and 551 which shew cast aluminium pipes on the lines of the "Condor" self-draining pipes, and using an old type R.R. carburetter with a slightly modified throttle chamber. No jacket is shewn round the pipe on these schemes, and therefore we have prepared further schemes - "N" Scheme 567, 568, & 569 shewing three suggestions for providing a jacket at the fork in the pipe immediately above the carburetter. But as we thought it might not be considered worth while to make aluminium pipes, we have also prepared an alternative scheme "N" Scheme 574 shewing a set of pipes made out of copper piping, which could be prepared with very little trouble. In this scheme we have also left the carburetter practically unaltered, except for a short distance pipe between the jet chamber and the throttle chamber. The pipes at present on the engine are based on "N" Scheme 550 & 551. "N" Scheme 574 is intended to be an adaptation of the same principal to suit the copper pipes, and at the same time to suit the restricted room, due to not changing the carburetter.
