Y4240 To B.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to PN.{Mr Northey} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Sp.{Mr Spinney} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG14.12.22. MAGNETO FOR 20 HP. Y4240 X3551 With reference to PN{Mr Northey}'s remarks as regards the automatic advance. His remarks only emphasize the necessity of the automatic control because whatever hand control is now necessary it would require twice as much, if no automatic advance was fitted. We are surprised to hear that PN.{Mr Northey} has found it necessary to continually use the hand ignition control with the battery ignition. Our tests show that between 500 and 3000 r.p.m. of the engine ( 10 to 60 m.p.h., approx.), the maximum power is obtained with the ignition lever approximately three-quarters up the quadrant. If the engine is using certain fuel or is carboned up, there will then be detonation and in order to overcome detonation one has to use the ignition lever to retard the ignition beyond the point of maximum power. We will, however, arrange to loan to Sales an Expl: Car which has both battery and magneto ignition. It will also have the radiator with the thermostat controlled shutters. We expect we shall be in a position to let Sales have this car in about two weeks time. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
