Young: Dear Sirs, Re: Distributorless Magneto for our 20 H.P. Car. This is of the nature of a technical enquiry only. We are anxious to know if you would consider it feasible to provide for our 20 H.P. car a distributorless magneto of a less costly type than our present standard machine, with a particularly good slow speed performance. At present we have a range of 58° with the sleeve machine, but we have some doubts as to whether a magneto can be obtained with short cobalt steel magnets, and with an equally good or better low speed performance than our present sleeve type. We want - (1) A sleeveless magneto. (2) Considerably reduced cost. (3) Preferably short cobalt steel magnet type, like our present 20 H.P. type, as this gives greater accessibility to other parts of the engine. (4) Particularly good low speed performance. (5) As large a range as possible up to 58°, but as stated, if we fix the range at 58°, our impression is that all of these at the same time are not possible. The machine is to operate with our battery ignition jump spark distributor and therefore should be such that it will not be likely to burn away the distributor points. Perhaps an inductor type of machine would be better in this respect. Contd. | ||
