The Avon India Rubber Co. Ltd.,
Melksham,
WILTS.

For the attention of Dr. Mackay.

Dear Sirs,

During some tests for measuring power loss in tyres, one of your tyres "threw its tread" after running at 100 m.p.h. for 5 mins. on a 4 ft. diameter drum.

We do not yet know whether this means that the same thing would happen on the road at 100 m.p.h., but propose to carry out tests to determine this. We are concerned, however, that competitive tyres have been satisfactory with similar running on the drums.

We are returning the tyre in question to you under separate cover and would be glad if you would let us know whether it is, in your opinion, in any way abnormal. The tyre was one of the last batch of four which you sent to Derby.

Yours faithfully,
for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
