To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. RG.{Mr Rowledge} c. to LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} S. ORIG SECRET 10,000 MILES TEST IN FRANCE. X9941 / X9840 We have recently completed 10,000 miles on an EAC.111. car fitted with a Barker open-touring body. The body was new and except that it was not completely upholstered and painted, was standard. Throughout the whole of the test we were troubled with various body rattles - these emanated from various sources - see attached. Our experience is that we cannot get coach-work and fittings to stand up for 10,000 miles in France. If it was thought to be useful, we might allow Barkers to see the next car before it leaves for France, and then for them to see the condition of the car when it returns.
