(2) These tests should be tried with cam balancer on the original keyway and not on the new 3° offset one. Is fore and aft rattle of camshaft in evidence as on Wraith which was cured by the end thrust plunger. On the extra 3° offset keyway in the balancer, has this any bearing on effectiveness of balancer on rattles. (6) Return cylinder head to shop where if casting allows will have .100 machined off face. This with C & A gasket will give C.R. of 6.4 : 1 and with .010 Klingerite 6.65 : 1. Both these conditions to be checked for power and detonation as outlined in (2) (7) Valve bounce we understand with Wraith valve springs etc. is 4350, with the exhaust silencer fitted. Springs have been designed by By/B. and will endeavour to get these fitted when head is in shop for machining off face. WRAITH III No.2 Unit. Unit for valve gear endurance is equipped with big ends as 26.C.VI. 3 flanged and 3 non flanged thin section. Following running in take ignition advance curve, maximum power and non detonation, also governor line with fixed hand control. This should be run with Red-Line petrol, standard exhaust silencer, air silencer and spark plugs. On completion of curve run endurance for valve gear in accordance with our previous memo. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}4/MH.{M. Huckerby}8.10.37. At time valve failed on previous endurance the exhaust valves should be crack tested. No.5 Test Bed. B.4 Unit.
