Re 'B' Steering and Driver's Seat - Seating Accommodation.

Thank you for HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/M4.7.22. I will inform the Sales Conference of its contents.

I am sure that the only wish of the members of the Sales Conference is to be as useful as possible in only giving advice as to their experience gained from being in continuous touch with customers and their requirements. They of course do not wish in any way to interfere with points of design.

The point in regard to the floorboards being 1" too high was discussed, but it was realised that presumably this would not have any effect on the relative distance of the accelerator pedal from the brake pedal. The chief point for consideration was the position of the brake pedal in relation to the position of the accelerator pedal. We do not know exactly how these pedals will eventually be arranged, but in the relative position in which they were fitted on the Goshawk limousine it was realised that when the right foot was removed from the accelerator pedal, the foot had to be carried back a considerable distance before it could find the brake pedal, and that in consequence it was considered that this would make the car difficult, uncomfortable and possibly dangerous to control in traffic. It was appreciated that it might be necessary for the brake pedal to have a long movement, but it was hoped that arrangements could be made to prevent the brake pedal having to come back so near to the driver's seat and so much further than the accelerator pedal.

I am sorry if this point was not made quite clear in my previous memorandum.

B.J.
