40/50 VALVE GUIDES - X.2764

We get considerable wear on the 40/50 Valve Guides.

The wear on the inlet valve guides is a frequent cause of poor slow running. We think the wear is more accute as the quality of the petrol deteriorates because the excess liquid petrol washes the valve and guide dry. At the present time, because of us having no replaceable valve guide bush, the only means we have of correcting an engine on which the valve guides have worn, is to scrap all the valves and replace them with another set which are oversize on the stem and reamer out the valve guides to suit. Thsi is a very expensive and extravagant repair because it means throwing away perfectly good valves. Our valves are fairly expensive; they cost the customer about 15/- each.

We have fitted up a 40/50 engine with valve guide bushes. We want your agreement for us to go along and test these out with a view to standardising them on cars and repair.
