==============
We have also tested GoshawkAero EngineCodename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after KestrelAero Engine I both on the Bench and on the road with a Stromberg Carburetter fitted; this we borrowed from the Hupmobile car. The Stromberg being much smaller in bulk than the modified 40/50 carburetter was easier to adapt and a better shaped induction pipe could be used. The power curve obtained with the Stromberg carburetter is practically identical to that obtained with the R-R. {Sir Henry Royce} If anything, the R-R is a little better at high speeds. Pulling at low speeds, although the Stromberg is very good considering it is not an automatic type, was not as good as we obtained with the R-R. {Sir Henry Royce} It is also not possible to suddenly accelerate with it.
One of the difficulties we are having with the GoshawkAero EngineCodename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after KestrelAero Engine is that so far we are not satisfied with the slow running light and the dead-slow running on the road. We have now fitted to the GoshawkAero EngineCodename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after KestrelAero Engine the R-R Battery ignition, but the best even slow running is about 6 to 7 M.P.H. This is the same with either the Stromberg or the R-R Carburetter.
During our tests on the induction system, we tested the effect of the corrugated form of hot-spot. This is used on a number of American cars including the Marmon. We found that this form is an advantage where there is only limited room to get in an hot-spot, but under conditions when the hot-spot is not very hot, petrol collects in these corrugations and increases the tendency for loading up. The Marmon car is not bad because it has not very pronounced corrugations.
The steering on the GoshawkAero EngineCodename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after KestrelAero Engine car has the same characteristics as the 40/50, i.e., the backward lean on the pivots contd:-
