Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X746a Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ.3.9.30. PHANTOM 11 REAR PETROL TANK. With reference to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}27/21.9.30. (Attached herewith). As you know we have had considerable trouble with the standard petrol gauge, largely owing to the fact that every coachbuilder who puts bodies on R.R. chassis has to be educated as to how to install the gauge. In our opinion this latest design sent through to W.W. may quite possibly lead us into a new series of installation troubles. In any case the coachbuilders will have to be educated to its use. Therefore, while we have it fitted to two cars at present, we are reluctant to complete the standardisation sheet in view of the troubles we have had, and are still having, with this unit. We understand that a complete shield is being designed to clean up the rear tank which of course cuts out the necessity for the latest scheme. We have submitted to R.{Sir Henry Royce} a tank unit which permits of a single line installation, and during our last visit to W.W. he told us that he was re-designing the tank for this unit. This should be great step forward in getting a reliable petrol gauge and will do away with the present fitting complained of. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
