To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Copy to Dg. B. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} E/PSN.1/MN.20.4.37. 308 Phantom III Induction System - Modifications for Improved Breathing. Further to our memo. E/PSN.4/MN.13.3.37 on the above subject, we now send you herewith three prints of modified induction pipe RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}507 (2 off) and three prints of modified induction pipe RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}508 (2 off) and two prints of flanged bush RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}506 (4 off). These modifications are to reduce the bore of the induction pipes to 1.4" and merely involve new core boxes, as the outside of the pipe is unchanged. It will be necessary to fit the bushes RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}506 into the central hot box to match up with the reduced diameter of the induction pipes. To fit these flanged bushes it will be necessary to bore out the central hot box as indicated and we have stated on RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}506 that the hot box which is to be modified, will be supplied by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} It may be considered desirable to try these reduced diameter pipes with both the opened/up hot box RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}462, and the standard hot box. The object of this test is to try to pick up some low and middle speed m.e.p. with the opened up hot box. E/PSN. Att: RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}507.
